Sardarapat Claim Their First-Ever Armenian Premier League Victory

FC Sardarapat made a successful debut in the Armenian Premier League, securing the club’s first-ever victory in the country’s top division.

In their opening-round match, Miguel Torres’ side cruised to a 4–1 win over Van. Levon Petrosyan, Hamlet Minasyan, Artur Danielyan and 17-year-old Janik Davtyan scored for the winners, while Levon Vardanyan provided two assists.

Davtyan’s goal was particularly symbolic. The Sardarapat academy graduate became the first player developed by the club to score for the senior team in the Armenian top flight.

Van’s only goal was scored from the penalty spot by team captain Petros Avetisyan.

Sardarapat produced an organised and fast-paced performance, while the Charentsavan-based side still appear to be some way from their best form. Ibrahim Isti’s first-half injury also affected the course of the match. The Nigerian midfielder had been one of the best players on the pitch but was forced off due to injury, significantly disrupting Van’s plans.

A high-scoring start to the new Armenian Premier League season gave the competition’s newcomers a historic first victory.
