Armenia women’s tennis team reaches Billie Jean King Cup Group II

The Armenia women’s tennis team has achieved a historic result in the Billie Jean King Cup. The Armenian team earned promotion to Group II of the Europe/Africa Zone.
In the decisive promotion match, Armenia defeated Estonia 2-0. Thanks to this result, the Armenian team will compete in Group II of the Billie Jean King Cup for the first time since 2009.
Ani Amiraghyan earned the first point for Armenia. In a tense match, she defeated her opponent 7-6, 4-6, 6-0.
Elina Avanesyan then confidently sealed the tie, winning the second singles match 6-2, 6-0. After that, Armenia led 2-0, and the doubles match was no longer needed.
Before the final match, Armenia had won all of its group-stage ties. The Armenian players defeated Azerbaijan, Albania and Montenegro one after another.
Thus, Armenia finished the tournament unbeaten and earned promotion. Next season, the Armenian team will compete in Group II of the Billie Jean King Cup for the first time in 17 years.
