The 2026 U20 Greco-Roman Wrestling World Championships concluded in Bratislava on August 19. On the final day of competition, medals were decided in the 60 kg and 82 kg weight categories, completing the list of all world champions and medalists.

The Russian team won the overall team standings with 142 points. Russian wrestlers claimed three gold, two silver and one bronze medal.

Armenia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Japan each produced one world champion.

Russia wins team standings, Armenia finishes fourth

Russia comfortably took first place in the team standings with 142 points. Iran finished second with 109 points, while Uzbekistan was third with 95.

Armenia scored 91 points and finished fourth, just four points behind Uzbekistan. Azerbaijan, with 90 points, took fifth place.

Armenian wrestlers completed the championships with four medals — one gold, one silver and two bronze.

In terms of the number of medals, Armenia matched last year's result. However, in 2025 the team scored 98 points compared with 91 at this year's tournament. Armenia officially finished second in the team standings that year, although when taking into account Russia's result, which was not included in the official standings, it corresponded to the third-best total of the tournament.

Armenia's Greco-Roman wrestlers also delivered a strong performance in Bratislava and remained in contention for a top-three finish until the very end. The biggest success for the Armenian team came from Samvel Terteryan, who won the gold medal in the 77 kg category. Samvel thus repeated the achievement of his brother Gaspar Terteryan, who won the U20 world title a year earlier.

Yurik Petrosyan earned Armenia a silver medal in the 87 kg category. Armenia's other two medals were bronze. Yurik Mkhitaryan took bronze at 67 kg, while Erik Ter-Matevosyan finished third at 97 kg.

Armenia's final medal tally:

  • gold — Samvel Terteryan, 77 kg;
  • silver — Yurik Petrosyan, 87 kg;
  • bronze — Yurik Mkhitaryan, 67 kg;
  • bronze — Erik Ter-Matevosyan, 97 kg.
