Today, on September 14, the second day of the World Freestyle Wrestling Championships in the weight categories up to 57, 74, 79 and 92 kg took place in Zagreb. The names of the finalists in the above-mentioned weight categories are already known, and one of the sensations was the loss of Olympic champion Zaurbek Sidakov in the semifinals of the tournament.
Two Ossetian giants competed for the finals: Olympic champion Zaurbek Sidakov and European champion, Olympic bronze medalist Chermen Valiev, representing Albania.
The first three minutes were not particularly interesting, except for Chermen's passivity, for which Zaurbek was awarded one point. The score became 0:1. However, at the beginning of the second period, Zaurbek launched an attack and earned two more points. Towards the end of the bout, the judges punished Valiev for passivity again, adding another point to Sidakov.
There were 40 seconds left until the end of the meeting, and the gap was 4 points. Chermen went on the attack, and those 40 seconds were enough for him to score more than four points and advance to the World Cup finals. As a result, the fight ended with a score of 6:4.
Years earlier, when Chermen played for the Russian national team, he could not become the number one in this weight class because of Zaurbek. And now he's literally snatching Sidakov's ticket to the World Championship finals.
