Rubin Kazan and Armenia national team midfielder Ugochukwu Iwu has suffered a muscle injury, the club’s head coach Frank Artiga has confirmed.
According to the coach, Rubin are dealing with several squad problems ahead of their Russian Premier League Matchday 6 clash against Dynamo Makhachkala. In addition to Iwu, defenders Igor Vujačić and Yegor Teslenko have also picked up injuries. Nazmi Gripshi’s participation in the upcoming match is also in doubt.
— The team is in good condition and the mood is positive after the win over Spartak in the Russian Cup and the match we played against Baltika in Kaliningrad. We were close to winning.
Unfortunately, we have some absences: Vujačić has a fractured rib, Teslenko has an ankle sprain, and Iwu has a muscle injury. There are also concerns over Nazmi Gripshi’s condition. There is a possibility that these players will not be able to play against Dynamo, — Rubin’s press service quoted Artiga as saying.
The injury is particularly frustrating for Iwu, as the midfielder only recently recovered from back surgery and returned to full match action.
The new injury could also affect his availability for Armenia’s upcoming matches. Iwu has already missed all three of the national team’s friendly matches this year due to health problems.
The recovery timeline for the 26-year-old midfielder is currently unknown.
