UEFA has fined the Georgian Football Federation €40,000 and ordered one home match to be played behind closed doors due to unrest during the match against Armenia held on March 23 in Tbilisi.
Among the violations were fans running onto the pitch, the use of lasers and pyrotechnics, and blocked exits. Particular outrage was caused by an incident where objects were thrown from the Georgian stands toward Armenian fans.

The sanctions do not apply to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers — Georgia will play the September matches against Turkey and Bulgaria with fans in attendance. The punishment will only affect the next UEFA Nations League cycle, which starts in 2025.
After the match, thousands of Georgian fans apologized on social media to Armenian supporters. The Georgian Football Federation also issued an official statement expressing regret over the events.
A match that was meant to symbolize good neighborly relations ended in alarming incidents. UEFA reminded that stadium safety and respect for opponents remain top priorities.
