The goalkeeper of DR Congo’s national team and Armenia’s “Noah,” Timothy Fayulu, has spoken for the first time following his heroic performance in the play-off round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, emphasizing that the team’s success is more than just a sporting result.
In his message on social media, the 26-year-old goalkeeper noted that it is an honor for him to represent his country:
“I am proud to have responded to my homeland’s call and to have contributed. For our people, we must remain united and act as one team,” Fayulu wrote.
His words came amid an emotional upswing in the country: the penalty shootout victory over Nigeria has already sparked widespread reaction among fans. Yet Fayulu himself preferred to focus not on personal recognition, but on the importance of national unity and collective effort.
The Football Federation of DR Congo noted that the goalkeeper’s performance has become a symbol of dedication and the team’s belief in its own strength. His Armenian club “Noah” also responded to his statement, highlighting their pride in Fayulu’s professionalism and character.
If DR Congo manages to secure qualification for the World Cup, Timothy Fayulu will become the first active footballer from the Armenian Premier League in history to play at the world championship.
