Tiknizyan signs contract with Olympiacos: Greek club to pay up to €7m for defender

Armenia national team defender Nair Tiknizyan will continue his career at Olympiacos. The player has already signed a 4+1 contract with the Greek club, journalist Ivan Karpov reports.

According to the source, Olympiacos will pay Red Star Belgrade €5 million in a single instalment. A further €2 million is included in potential bonuses.

The Belgrade club had initially planned to count on Tiknizyan for the Europa League qualifying matches against Viktoria Plzeň, scheduled for August 20 and 27. However, Olympiacos wanted to have the defender available as soon as possible, with the team set to face Atromitos in the Greek Super League as early as Saturday.

To convince Red Star to release the player before the European fixtures, the Piraeus club agreed to immediately pay the fixed €5 million transfer fee.

Tiknizyan has already arrived in Greece, successfully passed his medical examination, tried on the Olympiacos shirt and visited his new club’s stadium.

According to Karpov, the 27-year-old defender will earn around €1.1 million per year. The agreement runs for four seasons and includes an option to extend it for a further year.

Nair Tiknizyan will become the third player with Armenian citizenship in Olympiacos history.
