Armenia’s opponent prepares for a new cycle: Montenegro announces squad for upcoming matches
Football 💬 Comment

Montenegro national team head coach Mirko Vučinić has announced the list of players called up for the upcoming friendly matches. The extended squad includes 28 footballers playing for clubs abroad. These games will be part of the preparation for a new international cycle, during which Montenegro will face Armenia in the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League.

In March, Montenegro will play two friendly matches in Podgorica — against Andorra (March 27) and Slovenia (March 31). The games will take place at the City Stadium and will be the first opportunity for the coaching staff to assess the players’ form ahead of official tournaments.

Preparation for a new tournament

According to Vučinić, the upcoming matches will mark the beginning of preparations for the new international cycle.

“Games against Andorra and Slovenia will allow us to test different tactical options and evaluate how players respond to various tasks on the pitch. We will also give opportunities to footballers who previously had less playing time,” the coach said.

Montenegro will face Andorra on March 27 and Slovenia on March 31. Both matches will kick off at 18:00 local time.

The team’s training camp will begin on March 22, 2026.

Why this matters for Armenia

Interest in Montenegro’s squad is particularly high in Armenia because the teams will be placed in the same UEFA Nations League group, an important tournament for qualification to EURO 2028.

Armenia national team schedule

September 25, 2026 — Armenia vs Latvia or Gibraltar
September 28, 2026 — Armenia vs Montenegro
October 2, 2026 — Cyprus vs Armenia
October 5, 2026 — Montenegro vs Armenia
November 12, 2026 — Armenia vs Cyprus
November 15, 2026 — Latvia or Gibraltar vs Armenia

Thus, the Armenian team will face Montenegro twice in autumn — first at home and then away.

In March, Armenia will also play two friendlies:
March 26 vs UAE and March 29 vs Belarus.

The full Armenian squad has not yet been announced; so far only the list of foreign-based players has been published.
