Seven bouts, one win: Armenia’s performance at the European Junior Judo Championships

Representatives of the Armenian national team have completed their campaign at the European Junior Judo Championships for athletes under 21, which are being held in Podgorica.
On the second day of competition, two more Armenian judokas took to the tatami, but both were eliminated after their opening bouts.
In the -73 kg weight category, Zhirayr Hambaryan lost his opening bout to Russia’s Atmir Soblirov.
In the -81 kg category, Tigran Sarukhanyan was also eliminated after his first bout, losing to Poland’s Szymon Szulik.
Thus, the Armenian judokas completed the European Championships without winning a medal. In total, Armenia’s representatives contested seven bouts in Podgorica and recorded one victory.
The only win came from Shavarsh Nahapetyan in the -60 kg category. He defeated Sweden’s Albin Forselius in his opening bout before losing to Italy’s Francesco Crociani.
On the first day of competition, Hayk Darbinyan (-60 kg), Lyova Srapyan and Arshak Bekchyan (both -66 kg) also represented Armenia, with all three being eliminated after their opening bouts.
The European Junior Judo Championships in the Montenegrin capital are being held from September 3 to 5.
