Armenia’s men’s national tennis team has secured promotion in the Davis Cup. In the fourth round of the Europe Group IV tournament in Tsaghkadzor, Armenia defeated Albania 3-0.
Thanks to this victory, Armenia guaranteed at least second place in the group and earned promotion to the third group of the Davis Cup for next season. As a result, Armenian tennis players will compete in Europe Group III in 2027.
Against Albania, Armenia won both singles matches. Samvel Aghayan defeated Mario Zili 6-1, 6-0, while Davit Poghosyan beat Alex Prifti 6-3, 6-2.
Armenia then completed the 3-0 victory in doubles. Mikayel Avanesyan and Avetik Ghazaryan defeated the pair of Denis Gaba and Mario Zili 6-4, 6-4.
This was Armenia’s fourth consecutive win at the tournament. Earlier, the Armenian team defeated Andorra 3-0, San Marino 2-1 and Iceland 2-1.
Armenia will play its final match of the tournament on June 20 against Malta. Malta have also won all of their previous matches, so the head-to-head meeting will decide the group winner.
