On September 21, the performance of Russian Greco-Roman wrestlers at the 2025 World Championships ended. As a result of the tournament, they won three out of ten possible medals: two bronze and one silver. It was expected that the Russian wrestlers would show a higher result, but the competition is getting stronger every year.
The medalists of the tournament:
Daniyal Agaev (67 kg) — bronze medal
Milad Alirzaev (87 kg) — bronze medal
Artur Sargsyan (97 kg) — silver medal
Russian athletes are always the favorites in their weight categories, but this year the result was below average. The absence of Emin Sefershayev (55 kg) also played a role. An unpleasant incident happened to Emin: first he was evicted from the hotel, then they wanted to deport him for "legitimate" reasons. But, fortunately, it did not come to deportation, and he returned home.
Weight category performances:
55 kg. Emin Sefershayev did not participate in the tournament.
60 kg. Dovudjon Toshev lost ahead of schedule to the representative of Algeria in qualifying.
63 kg. Olympic bronze medalist Sergey Emelin was the main favorite in his bracket. He started the tournament by qualifying and reached the quarterfinals, where he lost to the representative of China. In the fight for bronze, he lost to the Iranian and was left without a medal.
67 kg. Daniyal Aghayev started the tournament from the 1/16 finals and reached the semifinals, where he lost ahead of schedule to the Olympic champion from Iran, Saeed Ismaili. In the fight for bronze, he defeated the representative of Serbia.
72 kg. Dmitry Adamov started the tournament by qualifying and reached the 1/8 finals, where he lost to the representative of Iran, who did not reach the finals and left Dmitry without a chance for consolation fights.
77 kg. Sergey Kutuzov had every chance to compete for medals, but did not meet expectations. He started the tournament from the 1/16 finals and reached the 1/8 finals, where he lost to Croatian Antonio Kamenjevic, who did not make it to the finals, and this left Sergei without a medal.
82 kg. Adlet Tyulyubaev started the tournament with a qualifying victory over Armenian Samvel Grigoryan. He reached the quarterfinals, where he lost to Georgian wrestler Gel Bolkvadze. In the consolation round, he defeated the representative of Ukraine, and in the fight for bronze, he defeated the representative of Japan, Taishi Yoshida.
87 kg. Milad Alirzaev started the tournament with qualification and confidently reached the semifinals, where he lost to the representative of Serbia Alexander Komarov. In the fight for the bronze, he defeated the representative of Kazakhstan Islam Yevloyev.
97 kg. Artur Sargsyan was one of the favorites and confirmed this at the tournament. He started with qualifying, beating the Japanese ahead of schedule, confidently passed through the grid, and in the semifinals defeated the Azerbaijani, who had previously defeated Olympic champion Artur Aleksanyan. However, in the final, Sargsyan lost to the reigning Olympic champion Mohammaduhadi Sarawi.
130 kg. Sergey Semionov started the tournament by qualifying and reached the 1/8 finals, where he lost to the representative of Finland and was left without a medal.
