Japanese and Italian judokas win gold on Day 1 of the 2025 Judo World Championships

On June 13, the 2025 Judo World Championships kicked off in Budapest, Hungary. On the opening day, medals were awarded in the men's 60 kg and women's 48 kg weight categories.
Representing Armenia was Ashik Andreyan (60 kg), who unfortunately lost in the first round to Brazil’s Michel Augusto.
The men's 60 kg world champion was 29-year-old Japanese judoka Ryuju Nagayama, who defeated France’s Romain Valadier Picard in the final. This is Nagayama’s second career world title.
In the women’s 48 kg category, 23-year-old Italian Assunta Scutto secured victory and claimed her second World Championship gold medal.
