On May 6, the fifth day of the 2026 World Junior Weightlifting Championships for athletes under 20 took place in Ismailia, Egypt. Medals were awarded in two weight categories: men’s 88 kg and women’s 77 kg.

At the end of the day, the major gold medals were won by athletes from Armenia and Venezuela. China continues to lead the medal standings convincingly with seven gold medals.

Armenian athlete Anna Amroyan recently set a junior continental record in the clean and jerk at the senior European Championships, although she was unable to register a result in the snatch.

This time, Amroyan completed all six attempts and finished with a result of 106–134–240 kg. She won gold with her final attempt, after which she fell onto her back and burst into tears. Tears appeared again on the podium when Armenia’s national anthem was played.

Venezuela’s first gold was delivered by Ángel Rodríguez, who claimed a confident victory in the men’s 88 kg category with a total of 365 kg.
