The Weightlifting Federation of Armenia has announced major staffing changes in the national teams. The decision was made considering preparations for the most important competitions of the coming years — the 2027 World Championships to be held in Yerevan, as well as the next Olympic Games.
Change of Head Coach of the Senior National Team
Hakob Pilosyan has been appointed head coach of Armenia’s national weightlifting team, replacing the long-time leader Pashik Alaverdyan. Pilosyan previously served as the team’s assistant coach. The position of assistant coach has been given to Davit Muradyan, who previously worked with Armenia’s youth national team.
Pashik Alaverdyan had been leading the Armenian national team since 2014. He took charge shortly before the 2016 Olympic Games, where Armenian weightlifters won two silver medals.
Update of the Coaching Staff of the Youth National Team
The youth national team of Armenia is now headed by experienced specialist Vigen Khachatryan, who has worked with junior, senior and women’s teams. His assistant is Vahram Gevorgyan, a coach from Yerevan’s Weightlifting School.
Changes in Junior Teams
Arsen Tamrazyan from the Gyumri State Sports College of Olympic Reserve has become the assistant coach of the junior boys’ team.
The junior girls’ national team is now led by Kristine Petrosyan, a coach from Gyumri’s School of High Sport Mastery.
Gratitude to Former Coaches
The leadership of the Weightlifting Federation of Armenia expressed gratitude to Pashik Alaverdyan and Melik Gukasyan for their many years of contribution to the development of the national teams and wished them success in their future endeavors.
In the coming days, the Secretary General of the Weightlifting Federation of Armenia, Samvel Gasparyan, will hold a press conference to present the essence and goals of all the personnel changes.
