Urartu midfielder Narek Aghasaryan will make his first-ever appearance in the starting lineup of the Armenian national team. His debut as a starter will take place in the match against Portugal in the 6th round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, scheduled for today, November 16, in the city of Porto.
The 24-year-old midfielder had previously appeared on the pitch only briefly — he came on as a late substitute twice: playing 3 minutes against Hungary and 6 minutes in the home match against Portugal, which ended in a 0:5 defeat.
Head coach Yeghishe Melikyan has already finalized the lineup, opting for a 5-3-2 formation with three central midfielders. This tactical setup gave Agasaryan the chance to start the match for the first time.
The Portugal vs Armenia match will kick off today at 18:00 Yerevan time and will be an important test for Melikyan’s renewed squad.
