Armenia national team defender Nair Tiknizyan has opened a new chapter in his career. The Red Star Belgrade footballer has become a national champion at club level for the first time.
The Belgrade club secured victory in the Serbian championship ahead of schedule. With several rounds remaining before the end of the season, the Red and Whites built a comfortable lead over their closest pursuer, Partizan, and guaranteed themselves first place in the standings.
It was especially symbolic that the title was sealed after a convincing victory over their main rival. In the head-to-head meeting, Red Star defeated Partizan 3–0, effectively removing any remaining doubts about the fate of the title.
For Tiknizyan, this success has special significance. Before moving to the Serbian club, he played for major teams in Russia — CSKA and Lokomotiv — but did not win a national championship with either of them.
Previously, the Armenian defender had only one team trophy to his name: the 2018/19 Russian Cup with CSKA. At that time, Tiknizyan received playing time in one match of the tournament and recorded an assist.
This season, Nair has become an important part of Red Star’s squad. In the Serbian championship, he has already played 23 matches and provided 4 assists, contributing to yet another title for the Belgrade giants.
At the same time, the club’s season is not over yet. Red Star continues to compete for the Serbian Cup and could complete a domestic double. In the tournament’s semifinal, the Belgrade side will face First League club Jedinstvo. Tiknizyan has also been actively helping the team in the Cup: he has 1 goal and 1 assist in 4 matches.
The season could also prove successful for other Armenian players abroad. Henrikh Mkhitaryan with Inter Milan, Tigran Barseghyan with Slovan, and Eduard Spertsyan with Krasnodar are also in contention for league titles. All of these teams are leading their national championships.
