On June 3, the first friendly match between the U21 national teams of Armenia and Cyprus took place in Yerevan and ended in a 1–1 draw.
The Armenian team opened the scoring in the 84th minute through Yervand Sukiasyan, a forward for the Austrian club St. Pölten and the son of former Armenian national team player Yervand Sukiasyan. The assist came from Mike Gevorgyan, who plays for the German club 1860 Munich.
It’s worth noting that Cyprus played the entire second half with ten men after their captain, Silianos Vrontis, was sent off. Armenia increased the pressure and controlled the game but missed out on a win in the final moments — in the 93rd minute, the visitors equalized following a free-kick set-piece.
