The European U16 Volleyball Championship is taking place in Yerevan, and one of the honorary guests of the tournament was the outstanding athlete Nina Muradyan. The Olympic medalist and multiple European and USSR champion personally presented awards to the best players of the day after the tournament matches, which was a special moment for the young participants.

Nina Muradyan is one of the most decorated volleyball players in Soviet and European sports. In 1976, she won a silver medal at the Olympic Games, became European champion in 1977, won the USSR championship twice, and later the German championship. Muradyan began her career with the Yerevan club “Burevestnik” and from 1974 to 1982 played for Moscow’s “Dynamo”.

After moving to West Germany in 1987, she played for the German national team under the surname Sawatzki. From 1990 to 2003, she coached the German women’s junior national team, and from 2003 to 2007 — the men’s junior national team. Today, the legendary volleyball player continues to share her experience while working in Austria.

Nina Muradyan’s presence at the tournament in Yerevan became a symbol of the connection between generations and a vivid example for young volleyball players dreaming of great sporting victories.
