FIDE World Cup 2025: Shant Sargsyan and Robert Hovhannisyan Advance to Second Round

Armenian grandmasters Shant Sargsyan and Robert Hovhannisyan have successfully advanced to the second round of the 2025 FIDE World Chess Cup, securing impressive wins in the opening stage of the tournament.
In the next round, Sargsyan will face Peruvian grandmaster Jorge Cori, while Hovhannisyan is set to compete against India’s rising star Raunak Sadhwani.
Earlier, fellow Armenian players Hayk Martirosyan and Gabriel Sargissian also qualified for the second round. Martirosyan will meet FIDE representative Vladislav Artemiev, and Sargissian will play against Israeli grandmaster Maxim Rodshtein.
With all four Armenian representatives moving forward, Armenia continues to have a strong presence in the World Cup, as its players aim for deep runs and valuable rating points in the prestigious event.
