FIDE World Cup: Opponents of Armenian Chess Players Announced

Armenian grandmasters are preparing for one of the most prestigious tournaments of the year — the FIDE World Cup, which will take place from November 1 to 26 in the Indian state of Goa. Armenia will be represented at the event by Shant Sargsyan, Robert Hovhannisyan, Haik Martirosyan, Gabriel Sargsyan, and Karen Grigoryan.
According to the press service of the Armenian Chess Federation, the tournament will follow a knockout system and consist of eight rounds. In each round, players will compete in two classical games. If the match ends in a draw (1–1), the winner will be determined in a tiebreak with rapid and blitz games.
In the first round, Robert Hovhannisyan will face FIDE Master Mohan Havini from Malaysia. Haik Martirosyan will play against Satria Duta Cahaya from Indonesia. Gabriel Sargsyan will meet International Master Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage from Sri Lanka, while Karen Grigoryan will take on Grandmaster Ahmed Adly from Egypt.
Shant Sargsyan, who received the 33rd seed, will start from the second round, as players ranked in the top 50 are exempt from the opening stage.
The Armenian grandmasters are determined to represent their country with honor and fight for top results in one of the most important individual tournaments of the year.
