Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu has commented on the situation surrounding Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s future after the final match of the season against Bologna.
The 37-year-old Armenian midfielder’s contract with the Milan club is nearing its end, and the question of his future remains open. At the same time, Chivu made it clear that the club highly values Mkhitaryan’s role both on the pitch and in the dressing room.
“Have I managed to convince Mkhitaryan to stay? He is a very important player because of his attitude, seriousness, professionalism and what he represents in the dressing room, just like the other players,” Chivu said in an interview with DAZN.
At the same time, the coach stressed that there have not yet been any concrete talks regarding Mkhitaryan’s future. According to Chivu, the parties will still have time to discuss the situation calmly.
“We haven’t talked about it yet; we will have time to do so,” the Inter coach noted.
Chivu also admitted that the situation is not easy, given the players’ age and expiring contracts. According to him, the players in such a position showed professionalism and gave everything they had to the team during a difficult season.
“It is not easy to reach a certain age with an expiring contract. They took responsibility and gave everything they had. I thank them all,” Chivu added.
The coach described the past season as long and demanding. He noted that the team needs rest not only physically but also psychologically, although the club is already forced to think about next season.
Mkhitaryan’s future at Inter remains uncertain for now. In the near future, the Armenian midfielder will have to make a decision: either continue his career by signing a new contract or retire from professional football.
