The Kazakhstan national team finished its 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with a bright match against Belgium. The Group J game, played on November 15, ended in a high-scoring 1–1 draw.
Already in the 9th minute, 17-year-old forward Dastan Satpayev opened the scoring after a fast attack, becoming the main hero for Kazakhstan and the youngest goalscorer in the team's history. Belgium, as expected, dominated the match, taking 20 shots and creating chances worth 2.5 xG, but managed to equalize only right after halftime: in the 48th minute, 33-year-old Hans Vanaken struck accurately to level the score.
Belgium got another chance to snatch the win in the 79th minute after Islam Chesnokov was sent off, but the Belgians failed to capitalize.
For Belgium, this match was an opportunity to secure a spot at the 2026 World Cup ahead of schedule, but the team postponed the task to the final game — against Liechtenstein.
For Kazakhstan, the match marked the end of the qualifying campaign. The team earned 8 points in 8 matches, securing two wins against Liechtenstein and drawing with North Macedonia and Belgium.
Group J standings:
-
Belgium — 15
-
North Macedonia — 13
-
Wales — 10
-
Kazakhstan — 8
-
Liechtenstein — 0
Kazakhstan finished the qualifiers brightly, while Belgium still has to secure their ticket to the world stage.
