First winners and medalists of the 2025 Youth World Weightlifting Championships announced

On May 1st, the 2025 Youth and Junior (U17 & U20) World Weightlifting Championships kicked off in Lima, the capital of Peru. For the first time in history, the competition is being held simultaneously on two platforms. On the very first day, 6 medal sets were awarded, 3 world records were broken, and many notable results were recorded.
14-year-old Brazilian girl — the star of the day
A true sensation came from Brazil’s 14-year-old Kristina Izanelly da Silva, who won the under 40 kg category among girls. After failing her first two snatch attempts, she gathered herself and not only won the tournament but also set a new clean & jerk world record — 77 kg. Her total was 134 kg, just 1 kg shy of the world record.
She became Brazil’s first-ever female world champion and world record holder in weightlifting. “She has an incredible spirit,” said Brazil’s national team coach Dragos Doru Storica.
