Inter Milan suffered a home defeat against London’s Arsenal in Matchday 7 of the UEFA Champions League league phase. The match at San Siro ended 1–3, with the outcome decided by the visitors’ clinical finishing and efficiency in front of goal.
The scoring opened as early as the 10th minute, when Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus capitalized on a defensive mistake to beat the hosts’ goalkeeper. Inter responded quickly: Petar Sučić equalized in the 18th minute. However, in the 31st minute Jesus restored Arsenal’s lead, completing his brace. The final goal was scored by Viktor Gyökeres in the 84th minute after coming on as a substitute.
The match was intense and full of action, but Arsenal showed greater composure in the final third and converted their chances more effectively. This victory marked Arsenal’s seventh consecutive win in the current Champions League league phase.
After seven rounds, Arsenal have a perfect record of 21 points, sit alone at the top of the standings, and have already secured a top-8 finish, granting direct qualification to the Round of 16. Despite the defeat, Inter have already qualified for the knockout stage but still retain a chance to finish in the top eight. In the final round, the Milan side will face Borussia Dortmund on January 28.
Gabriel Jesus was named Man of the Match by UEFA’s Technical Observers Group. Experts praised his contribution, noting that the striker “scored two goals, covered a lot of ground, and created another dangerous chance.”
Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan did not take part in the match and remained on the bench.
