Tennis player Karen Khachanov has reached the final of the prestigious ATP tournament in Toronto. In a tense semifinal match, he overcame world number three Alexander Zverev in three sets — 6:3, 4:6, 7:6 (7:4).
This victory marked Khachanov’s first win over Zverev since 2019. The German had won their previous three encounters in a row.
Despite trailing in service statistics — 5 aces to Zverev’s 13 and a 60% first serve accuracy compared to Zverev’s 71% — Khachanov showed consistency and composure in the key moments. He converted one of three break points, won 73% of points on his first serve, and did not lose a single tiebreak, unlike Zverev.
Khachanov won three more points (105 to 102) and two more games (17 to 15), which proved decisive in the tight, evenly matched battle.
In the final, which will take place on August 8, Khachanov will face the winner of the all-American semifinal between Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz.
