23-year-old Armenian midfielder Gevorg Diarbian continues to make a strong impression with the MLS side New England Revolution. In the US Open Cup Round of 32 against Chicago Fire, he made his second appearance for the club.
Diarbián came on as a substitute in the 67th minute, but New England couldn't avoid defeat — the match ended 1-3. Nevertheless, it was the Armenian who played a role in his team’s only goal: in the 89th minute, he made a powerful solo run down the wing and took a shot on goal. The ball deflected off Chicago defender Justin Reynolds and went into the net — the goal was officially recorded as an own goal.
It’s worth noting that in the previous match, Diarbián also played a key part in the winning goal, coming on in the 87th minute — his cross hit the post and was finished by a teammate. Thus, in his first two appearances for New England, Gevorg Diarbián has been actively involved in goal-scoring situations, even if he hasn’t registered official goal contributions in the stats.
