Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan commented on the 2–0 away win over Borussia Dortmund in the final round of the Champions League league phase. The Armenian footballer started the match and played the full 90 minutes, contributing to a crucial result for his team.
Speaking to the Nerazzurri’s official media, Mkhitaryan emphasized that teamwork was the key factor.
“We did a great job as a unit — both in defense and in attack. We created several dangerous chances. At times it felt like that might not be enough, but in the end we managed to score from a set piece, and that gave us confidence,” the midfielder said.
According to Mkhitaryan, the victory over the German giant was important not only in tournament terms but also psychologically for the whole squad.
“We deserved this success. We wanted to prove to everyone that Inter can beat top-level teams. It doesn’t really matter who steps onto the pitch — we have a deep squad, and everyone is ready to help. In training we work a lot on understanding and connections on the field, because at any moment someone may get a chance. In football, you never know how a match will unfold,” he noted.
The Armenian player also admitted there is still slight disappointment over previous results.
“In earlier matches we dropped points, and of course that left a mark. Maybe we could have done a bit better, but that’s football. Now our focus is on the next stage. We will do everything to go through, regardless of the opponent — Benfica or Bodø/Glimt. First of all, we concentrate on our own game, not the rivals,” Mkhitaryan stressed.
Inter finished 10th in the Champions League league phase and will play in the Round of 32 against either Benfica or Bodø/Glimt. The draw will take place on Friday.
