Garnik Cholakyan — European U23 Weightlifting Champion

Armenian weightlifter Garnik Cholakyan became the European U23 Champion in the 60 kg weight category at the 2025 European Youth (U20 & U23) Championships held in Durrës, Albania.

The 22-year-old athlete delivered an impressive performance, successfully completing 5 out of 6 lifts and winning three gold medals — small golds in the snatch and clean & jerk, and the overall gold in the total.

Results of the 60 kg category (Men, U23):

1. Garnik Cholakyan (Armenia) — 267 kg (120+147)

2. Deniz Denev (Bulgaria) — 259 kg (113+146)

3. Harun Algül (Turkey) — 251 kg (114+137)

4. Mustafa Erdogan (Turkey) — 251 kg (110+141)

5. Seyran Khudanyan (Armenia) — 250 kg (115+135)

Another Armenian lifter, Seyran Khudanyan, won the small silver medal in the snatch and placed fifth overall.

This marks the second major gold for Team Armenia at the current European Championships — earlier today, Aleksandra Grigoryan won gold in the women’s 58 kg U20 category.
