David Mgoyan (7-0) has been given a chance to break into the strongest league in the world. The 21-year-old fighter will step in as a replacement and face Tommy MacMillen (8-0) on September 3 in Las Vegas as part of Season 9 of Dana White's Contender Series (DWCS). With an impressive victory, he could sign a contract with the UFC.
Mgoyan is an athlete of Yazidi origin whose parents are from Armenia. David himself was born in Rostov-on-Don but has always maintained ties with his homeland and now competes under the Armenian flag. Notably, he is a relative of Kyaram Sloyan — a hero of the Artsakh War.
David began his professional career in Russia, securing three victories at MMA Series and Open FC events. In 2024, he moved to the United States, where he trains alongside well-known UFC fighter Arman Tsarukyan. It was Arman who spotted Mgoyan’s talent during joint training sessions and invited him to join his team. Since then, Tsarukyan and Mgoyan have regularly prepared together, with Arman also cornering David during fights.

While competing in the US, Mgoyan has fought four times and won all his bouts — three by stoppage and one by decision — at LFA, CFFC, and Tuff-N-Uff events. These successes have opened the door for him to DWCS.
David’s opponent is also an undefeated fighter. 27-year-old Tommy MacMillen (8-0) from the USA is the champion of the Fusion Fight League and has also fought in RUF. All eight of his wins have come by stoppage (3 by knockout and 5 by submission), so Mgoyan faces a tough test.
At the same event, American fighter of Armenian descent Jean-Paul Bosnoyan (8-2) will also compete. In the main event of the evening, he will face Jack Congdon (7-1). The 26-year-old Bosnoyan is a former LXF champion and previously fought for the title in LFA, where he suffered a loss. Now he has a chance to earn a UFC contract.
