MMA fighter David Mgoyan revealed in an interview with Armenia MMA that the Hero of Armenia, Kyaram Sloyan, is his third cousin. David was born in Rostov-on-Don, but he is Yezidi by nationality, and his relatives are from Armenia.
"For me, Armenia is like my home; my parents grew up there, and I feel at home when I am there. I do not see a difference between Armenians and Yezidis; we are like brothers, and we must support each other and be more united. My relative, Kyaram Sloyan, fell as a warrior. He is my third cousin, a Hero of Armenia, who died with honor while defending his homeland," said David Mgoyan.
Kyaram Sloyan was a soldier who was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Artsakh. He died on April 2, 2016, during the April War at the age of 19. After his death, he was beheaded by Azerbaijani soldiers. Kyaram defended the same post as his peer, Robert Abajyan, another Hero of Artsakh, who sacrificed himself that morning by detonating a grenade among enemy soldiers.
According to Armenia MMA, David Mgoyan (6-0) will have his next fight on May 23 against Roberto Hernandez (9-3) at Tuff-N-Uff 144 in San Diego, USA.
If he wins, David has been promised a fight at Dana White's Contender Series (DWCS), where a strong performance could earn him a contract with the UFC.
