27-year-old midfielder David Davidyan has been called up to the Armenian national team for the October matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the official account of Russian club Rotor reports.
Yegishe Melikyan’s team will play two away matches — against Hungary in Budapest on October 11 and against Ireland in Dublin on October 14. Davidyan may take the field in one of these games.
The last time the player was called up to the national team was in October 2024, when the team was led by Oleksandr Petrakov. Davidyan has three caps for Armenia.
Last summer, the midfielder left Yerevan’s Pyunik and moved to Volgograd’s Rotor. In the current Russian First League season, he has played 9 matches, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
Armenia’s head coach Yegishe Melikyan knows Davidyan’s abilities well — the player spent three years at Pyunik under his guidance. Back then, he was often used as a full-back. Now at Rotor, Davidyan plays closer to attack, but in the national team, Melikyan is likely to deploy him again in defense within a five-man back line.
