Cancarevic recalls a crazy episode before Turkey vs Armenia: “I still get goosebumps”

Armenia national team goalkeeper Ognjen Cancarevic has spoken about an incredible episode that took place before the away match against Turkey. According to the goalkeeper, the scene he witnessed gave the players a powerful emotional boost even before the opening whistle.

Speaking on a Serbian podcast, Cancarevic recalled the atmosphere near the stadium, where there was enormous tension before the match. Tens of thousands of Turkish fans were gathering around the arena, and at that moment the goalkeeper noticed a man who immediately caught his attention.

According to Cancarevic, the man was standing in the crowd and staring directly at him. The situation looked extremely tense, almost cinematic. Then the fan slowly unzipped his summer jacket and showed that underneath it he was wearing an Armenia national team shirt. After that, he calmly zipped the jacket back up.

“Even now, when I talk about it, I get goosebumps. That man was walking into real hell — into a crowd of 40,000 Turkish fans. He looked at me and smiled slightly,” Cancarevic said.

The goalkeeper admitted that the gesture made a huge impression on him. According to Cancarevic, in such an atmosphere, very few people would have dared even to approach the stadium wearing an Armenia shirt, let alone enter it among thousands of opposition fans.

Cancarevic described the moment as crazy and extremely powerful emotionally. He noted that for the Armenia national team players, this gesture became a real symbol of support and an additional source of motivation before an important match.

“It was simply incredible. He slowly unzipped his jacket — and underneath it was an Armenia shirt. Brother, it looked like real suicide. An incredible act that really lifted our fighting spirit before the game,” the goalkeeper added.

This episode once again shows how special Armenia national team matches can be for both fans and players, especially in fixtures with such a strong emotional background. Even a single gesture of support can sometimes mean more to a team than any words.
