Brazilian defender Cesar joins Alashkert

Alashkert have announced the signing of Brazilian centre-back Cesar. The 26-year-old footballer has become the latest newcomer for the Yerevan club during the summer transfer window.

Cesar’s most recent club was Azerbaijan’s Shamakhi. Last season, the Brazilian defender made 33 appearances for the team and scored 3 goals. Before moving to Azerbaijan, he played in his homeland, featuring in Brazil’s Serie C and Serie D.

Alashkert have so far been conducting their transfer campaign rather cautiously. The team is maintaining balance by position and effectively making targeted replacements: Armenian defender Yuri Gareginian was replaced by Hakob Hakobyan, while after the departure of Brazilian centre-back Kleider Macedo, the club brought in another Brazilian central defender — Cesar.

At the end of last season, Alashkert finished 4th in the Armenian championship and earned the right to compete in European competitions. The team will begin its Conference League campaign from the first qualifying round.
