Armenian athletes Hamlet and Hayk Manukyan have achieved remarkable success, becoming European champions in their respective disciplines just two weeks apart. Seventeen-year-old Hamlet Manukyan won gold at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships for adults, while sixteen-year-old Hayk Manukyan became European champion in Greco-Roman wrestling among cadets.
Hamlet Manukyan made a dazzling debut at the senior European Championships held on May 30, 2025, in Leipzig. The Armenian gymnast became champion on the pommel horse with a score of 14.766, confidently securing first place.
Twelve days later, on June 11, in Skopje, Hayk Manukyan stood atop the podium at the European Cadet Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships (under 17). In the final of the 60 kg weight class, he defeated an opponent from Azerbaijan to claim the gold medal. This victory also secured Armenia first place in the team standings.
According to Sportaran.com, Hayk and Hamlet are cousins—their fathers are brothers. Interestingly, Hamlet also started out in wrestling as a child but later chose gymnastics, where he reached European glory. Both athletes were born in the village of Apaga, Armavir region.
Thus, two young talents from one family have become a symbol of Armenia’s sporting pride.
