On January 9, Armenian footballers playing for European clubs took part in several friendly matches as part of their teams’ winter training camps.
Armenia national team midfielder Vahan Bichakhchyan started for Warsaw’s Legia and played the first half in a friendly match against Pogon Grodzisk Mazowiecki, a club competing in Poland’s First League. The match took place at Legia’s training base and ended with a 3–2 victory for the hosts.
Defender Georgi Harutyunyan played the full 90 minutes for Hungary’s Puskás Akadémia in a match against Belgian side Lommel (First Division) during a training camp in Spain. The Armenian footballer was used as a defensive midfielder, but his team suffered a 1–3 defeat. Harutyunyan did not take part in the second friendly against Genk, where Puskás Akadémia lost again, 0–1.
Mark Gevorgyan played the entire match for Hannover 96. During the team’s training camp in Turkey, he featured as a right wing-back in a game against Mannheim (3. Bundesliga). The match ended in a narrow 1–0 victory for the German side. This was the 20-year-old Gevorgyan’s debut appearance for the senior team.
Defender Stepa Mkrtchyan, who represents Croatian club Osijek, did not take part in the friendly match against Turkish side Başakşehir, which was also held in Turkey. The match ended in a 1–1 draw.
It is worth noting that on January 12, Vahan Bichakhchyan and Georgi Harutyunyan could face each other: Legia and Puskás Akadémia are scheduled to play a head-to-head friendly match during their training camp in Spain.
