The current president of the Football Federation of Armenia, Armen Melikbekyan, has announced that he will not run in the next FFA presidential election.
He made the statement during an interview with Armen Garamyan. The FFA presidential election is scheduled to take place at the end of 2026.
Melikbekyan also noted that he will continue working in football, holding his positions in the UEFA and FIFA executive committees.
It should be recalled that Armen Melikbekyan was re-elected as FFA president in 2023. In that election, he defeated former Armenia national team player Aras Ozbiliz.
Earlier, Armen Nikoghosyan left his post as FFA vice-president.
Football club Noah reacted to Melikbekyan’s statement. The club described the decision as a positive and important development for Armenian football.
“We view this statement as a positive and important development for Armenian football. At the same time, we note that after such a statement, any step back or change of position cannot be acceptable to the Armenian football community.
We expect the upcoming stage to bring new approaches, new values and real reforms that are necessary to take Armenian football to a new level,” Noah said in its statement.
