Armenian champions Ararat-Armenia have strengthened their squad ahead of the start of Champions League qualifying. The team’s new signing is 29-year-old French midfielder Maxence Carlier.
The footballer has joined the Armenian club from French side Nancy, who play in Ligue 2. Carlier is a product of Lens’ academy, but spent most of his career in the French third division. Last season, however, he was part of Nancy’s first-team group in Ligue 2, making 27 appearances and providing 2 assists.
The player’s market value is €500,000, and he is 186 cm tall. Maxence Carlier is a defensive-minded midfielder who rarely contributes directly to goals.
Ararat-Armenia have not yet officially announced the signing of the French midfielder. However, Carlier has already been included in the team’s squad list for the first qualifying round of the Champions League against Latvia’s Riga. As a result, he has become the Armenian champions’ final new signing before the start of their European campaign.
Ararat-Armenia had previously also signed goalkeeper João Bravim, defenders Bruno Pereira, Bruno Wilson and Lucio Felipe, as well as forwards Sandro Lima and Carlos França.
The first match against Riga will take place on July 7 in Abovyan. The return leg will be played in Latvia. The winner of the tie will continue their campaign in the second qualifying round of the Champions League.
