Adamyan and Kanikovsky Win Medals for Team Russia – Day 6 Results of the 2025 Judo World Championships

On June 18, the sixth day of the 2025 Judo World Championships took place in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Medals were contested in the men’s under 100 kg and women’s under 78 kg weight categories.
In the under 100 kg division, Armenian-born Armen Adamyan competed for Team Russia. He reached the semifinals, where he lost to his teammate Matvey Kanikovsky. Prior to that, Adamyan defeated Karamatullo Hakimov (Tajikistan), Omar Elramly (Egypt), and Olympic champion Zelim Kotsoev (Azerbaijan). In the bronze medal bout, the 28-year-old Armenian beat Jafar Kostoev (UAE) and claimed third place.
In the final, European champion Matvey Kanikovsky (Russia) faced 20-year-old Japanese judoka Dota Arai. The 23-year-old Russian won and brought his team its second gold medal of the tournament.
In the women’s under 78 kg category, Italy’s Alice Bellandi became the world champion for the first time in her career, securing Italy's second gold at the tournament.
Japan currently tops the medal table with six gold medals. Russia and Italy have two golds each, while France and Georgia have one gold medal apiece.
