The 2026 FIFA World Cup is currently taking place in the United States, Mexico and Canada — the largest tournament in history, featuring 48 national teams. Among the participants are many teams that Armenia have faced in different periods. However, the Armenian national team has managed to beat only some of them.

In total, among the participants of the 2026 World Cup, Armenia have defeated only six teams: Belgium, Czechia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Uzbekistan, Paraguay and Canada.

Belgium

One of Armenia’s most memorable victories over a 2026 World Cup participant came in 2009 during the qualifiers for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Armenia defeated Belgium 2-1 in Yerevan. Hovhannes Goharyan and Sargis Hovsepyan scored for Armenia, while Daniel Van Buyten found the net for Belgium.

In total, Armenia and Belgium have played six matches against each other. Armenia’s record includes one win and five defeats. Interestingly, Armenia finished last in the group in that qualifying campaign, and the victory over Belgium was the team’s only win.

Czechia

Another historic victory came in 2013 during the qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Armenia defeated Czechia 2-1 away from home.

At that time, the Armenian team was fighting for second place in the group and produced one of its brightest performances of that period. Karlen Mkrtchyan first scored a brilliant long-range goal, then Czechia equalized through Tomas Rosicky, but in the 92nd minute Gevorg Ghazaryan secured a dramatic win for Armenia.

In total, Armenia and Czechia have met six times: one win for Armenia and five defeats. Armenia finished that qualifying campaign with 13 points and took 5th place, while Czechia finished third with 15 points.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

In 2019, Armenia produced one of their best matches of recent years, defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-2 in the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan was the main hero of the match, scoring twice and assisting Hovhannes Hambardzumyan. Another goal came from a Bosnian own goal. Edin Dzeko and Amer Gojak scored for the visitors.

In total, Armenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have played four matches. Armenia’s record is one win and three defeats.

Uzbekistan

Armenia have faced Uzbekistan twice and won both matches.

The first match took place in 2001 and ended in a 2-0 victory for Armenia. Arthur Minasyan and Artak Minasyan scored the goals.

The second meeting came in 2010, when Armenia were at the beginning of one of the best periods in their history. The Armenian team won 3-1. Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored, while Edgar Manucharyan added a brace. Alexander Geynrikh scored for Uzbekistan.

Armenia’s overall record against Uzbekistan: 2 matches, 2 wins.

Paraguay

In the 1990s, Armenia often held training camps and friendly matches in Latin America. Victories over local teams were not easy to achieve, but one of them became especially memorable.

In 1996, Armenia defeated Paraguay 2-1. Varazdat Avetisyan and Tigran Yesayan scored for the Armenian national team.

In total, Armenia and Paraguay have played two matches. Armenia have one win and one defeat.

Canada

Armenia have faced Canada only once — in a friendly match in 2012. That game ended in a confident 3-1 victory for the Armenian team.

The match was remembered for Aras Ozbiliz’s debut for Armenia. The newcomer immediately scored a goal, while Marcos Pizzelli added two more. Kevin McKenna scored for Canada.

Therefore, Armenia’s record against Canada remains perfect: 1 match, 1 win.
