Portugal claimed a convincing victory over Uzbekistan in the second round of the 2026 World Cup group stage. The match ended 5-0.
Cristiano Ronaldo was the main hero of the game. The Portugal captain scored twice and made history by becoming the first footballer ever to score at six different World Cup tournaments.
Ronaldo also took his World Cup tally to 10 goals, becoming Portugal’s all-time leading scorer in the history of the tournament.
For the 41-year-old forward, this match was another reminder of his unique status in world football. Ronaldo also became one of the oldest goalscorers in World Cup history.
PSG defender Nuno Mendes and AC Milan forward Rafael Leao also scored their first-ever goals at the World Cup. Another goal came after a defensive mistake by Uzbekistan.
Portugal now have 4 points after two matches. In the final round of the group stage, they will face Colombia in a crucial match in the race for a place in the knockout stage.
Uzbekistan have almost lost their chances of progressing from the group after the heavy defeat. In the final round, they will play against DR Congo.
