Canada and Bosnia draw at World Cup 2026: hosts earn their first-ever point in tournament history

Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina played out a draw in a World Cup 2026 group-stage match. The Group B game in Toronto ended 1-1.

For Canada, the result was historic: the team earned its first-ever point at a World Cup. Previously, the Canadians had never won or drawn a match in the final stages of the tournament.

Bosnia and Herzegovina took the lead in the first half after a corner-kick routine. Sead Kolasinac delivered the ball from the corner, and Jovo Lukic managed to escape his marker before heading it into the net from close range. For Lukic, it was his first goal for the national team.

Canada had several good chances to equalize during the match. Jesse Marsch’s side hit the woodwork and also saw efforts cleared off the goal line. The pressure from the hosts eventually paid off in the second half.

Substitute Cyle Larin became Canada’s hero. The forward received the ball near the edge of the penalty area and struck powerfully toward goal. After a deflection, the ball ended up in the net, sending the Toronto stadium into celebration. It was Canada’s first goal at World Cup 2026.

The draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina could prove to be an important result for Canada in the battle to qualify from the group. Jesse Marsch’s team will play its next match on June 18 in Vancouver against Qatar.

Qatar and Switzerland are also competing in Group B.
