Janes Nazaryan Reaches U17 World Championship Final in Baku

Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler Janes Nazaryan, competing in the 71 kg weight category, has advanced to the final of the U17 World Championships in Baku.

In the semifinal, Nazaryan secured an early 8–0 victory over his Bulgarian opponent. The Armenian wrestler has yet to concede a single point at the tournament, winning all four of his bouts early by a combined score of 34–0.

Nazaryan began the defence of his world title with an 8–0 victory over a representative of Norway. He needed only a minute and a half to finish the bout.

In the round of 16, Janes produced a spectacular throw and defeated his Turkish opponent 9–0 to advance to the quarterfinals. The Armenian wrestler once again kept a clean sheet in the next round, recording an early 9–0 victory over a representative of Hungary.

Nazaryan will face Russia’s Aslan Dzuev in the final. Dzuev is the reigning U17 European champion in the 65 kg weight category but is competing at 71 kg at the World Championships.

On his way to the final, Dzuev defeated a Ukrainian wrestler 7–3, beat his Moldovan opponent 9–0 and recorded a 6–3 victory over a representative of Kazakhstan. In the semifinal, he secured an early 10–1 win over an Iranian opponent.

In the 65 kg final of the U17 European Championships, Dzuev defeated Armenian wrestler Zaven Mejlumyan 6–3.

Nazaryan enters the decisive bout in outstanding form. He previously won the European Championships with a combined score of 37–0. The Armenian wrestler has therefore won every bout at two consecutive major international tournaments without conceding a single point.
