England have reached the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a hard-fought victory over DR Congo. Thomas Tuchel’s side won 2-1 in Atlanta after falling behind during the match.

The African side took the lead in the first half thanks to a fine goal from Brian Sipenga. DR Congo held on to their advantage for a long spell and came close to a historic result, but Harry Kane’s quality proved decisive late in the game.

The England captain equalized in the 75th minute before completing his brace in the 86th to secure a comeback victory for his team. Kane now has 5 goals at the 2026 World Cup.

In stoppage time, DR Congo had a chance to rescue the match, but Yoane Wissa’s free-kick did not trouble Jordan Pickford. England held on and continued their World Cup campaign.

In the Round of 16, England will face Mexico. The match will be played at the legendary Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

For Noah goalkeeper Timothy Fayulu, the World Cup is over without a single appearance. The DR Congo keeper leaves the tournament without getting any minutes on the pitch.
