U20 Women’s Wrestling Championship Concludes – Margarita Salnazaryan Among the Medalists

On July 4, the 2025 European U20 Women’s Wrestling Championship concluded in Caorle, Italy. The tournament featured some of the strongest young wrestlers from across Europe. In the overall team standings, Russia came out on top with 149 points, ahead of Ukraine (116) and Turkey (108).

In the lightest weight class (up to 50 kg), Ksenia Kotsenich (Belarus) won gold, Josephine Wrench (Germany) took silver, and the bronze went to Violetta Biryukova (Russia) and Laura Fath (Hungary).

The 53 kg title was claimed by Anastasia Polska (Ukraine), while Gerda Terek (Hungary) won gold at 55 kg.

The 57 kg and 59 kg champions were Felicitas Domazheva (Norway) and Gunay Gurbanova (Azerbaijan), respectively.

Another gold for Azerbaijan came in the 62 kg category thanks to Ruzanna Mammadova.

In the 65 kg class, Turkish wrestler Beyza Akkus triumphed. Margarita Salnazaryan, a Russian athlete of Armenian descent, won silver in this weight class. Her confident performance en route to the final underscored her high level of preparation.

Oleksandra Rybak (Ukraine) was crowned champion at 68 kg, and her compatriot Nadiya Sokolovska took gold in the 76 kg division.
Wider Medal Geography:
Wrestlers from more than ten countries reached the podium, including athletes from Germany, Sweden, Poland, Moldova, and Italy — a testament to the growing competitiveness in European women’s junior wrestling. Azerbaijan, Norway, and Belarus were especially successful, each earning gold medals.
