Zaven Mezhlumyan wins bronze at his debut U17 World Championships

Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler Zaven Mezhlumyan (60 kg) won a bronze medal at the U17 World Championships taking place in Athens.
In the bronze medal match, Mezhlumyan scored a confident 5:2 victory over Ukrainian wrestler Denis Seredin.
Throughout the tournament, Zaven demonstrated a high level of wrestling. In the repechage rounds, he crushed Germany’s Mika Labes (9:0) and then defeated Mexico’s Zeus Gonzalez (5:0). In the main bracket, Mejloumyan narrowly lost to future finalist Amengeldi Isakbayev of Kyrgyzstan (7:11), conceding four points in the final seconds.
This World Championships was Zaven Mezhlumyan’s first international tournament, and he managed to win a medal right away. Previously, European champion Hayk Manukyan had successfully represented Armenia in this weight category.

Earlier at the Athens tournament, Janes Nazaryan (65 kg) won gold, while Marat Achemyan (51 kg) also claimed a bronze medal for Armenia.
