Former Armenia national team defender Andre Calisir has officially retired from professional football. This was reported by Transfermarkt.
The 35-year-old player’s last club was Swedish side Brommapojkarna, whose colors he had defended since 2023. Earlier in his career, Calisir played for a number of clubs in the leagues of Sweden, Denmark, and Greece, spending a significant part of his career in Scandinavian football.
He joined the Armenia national team during a difficult period when the squad faced a shortage of central defenders. Calisir quickly became an important part of the defense and formed a reliable partnership with Varazdat Haroyan. During that period, Armenia achieved one of its main successes of recent years — winning UEFA Nations League C in 2020.
Calisir was known for his tough character, professional attitude, and high level of game discipline. Notably, in matches for the Armenia national team he received only two yellow cards and was never sent off — a rare statistic for a central defender.
He made his debut for the national team in 2018 and earned 34 caps in total. Remarkably, his final match for Armenia ended in victory: on November 17, 2024, he played against Latvia in a game that finished 2–1 in favor of the Armenian team.
Calisir’s retirement marks the end of a stable and important chapter of his career at both club and international level.
Interestingly, in 2025 Calisir also began trying himself off the pitch. In October, he worked as a coordinator for the Sweden U16 national team during training camps, combining administrative duties with his status as an active player.
