Icelandic football club ÍA Akranes has officially announced the signing of a contract with 32-year-old defender Gudmundur Thorarinnsson. The agreement is set for two years, and the player joined his new team as a free agent after leaving Yerevan-based club Noah.

Thorarinnsson departed the Armenian club after achieving significant success, winning both the Armenian Championship and the Armenian Cup. His professional career spans more than 13 years outside Iceland, with the defender having played in the leagues of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, in the American MLS, as well as in Greece’s top division.

Over the years, the Icelandic defender became a Norwegian league champion and cup winner with Rosenborg, won the MLS title with New York City FC, and also added trophies during his time at Noah.

At international level, Gudmundur Thorarinnsson has earned 15 caps for the Iceland national team. ÍA representatives note that the signing of the experienced defender is a major boost for the squad and expect his experience and leadership to benefit the club in the coming seasons.

During his time at Noah, Thorarinnsson made 44 appearances, scoring 2 goals and providing 7 assists.
