The “Photon” Lyceum team from Gyumri will represent Armenia at the prestigious 2025 World School Team Chess Championship, which will take place from August 3–6 in Washington, D.C. For the first time, the tournament will be held in the U.S. capital and will bring together the strongest school teams from 47 countries.
The competition will be hosted at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, and in parallel, on August 4–5, the international forum Smart Moves Summit will be held, dedicated to education, technology, and innovation.
The tournament is supported by the international financial technology company Freedom Holding Corp., whose shares are traded on NASDAQ. The company’s founder and CEO, Timur Turlov, also heads the International School Chess Federation (ISCF).
"Behind every young chess player is a story of perseverance and curiosity. Although they represent different countries, they are all united by their desire for learning, strategy, and challenge. We are pleased to support a platform where young talents can develop and make a name for themselves," said Turlov.
The championship promises to be one of the largest school chess events of the year. In addition to intense matches, spectators can expect award ceremonies, expert discussions, and a chance to see the future elite of world chess.
