"Unisport" vs "Yerevan": The futsal titans’ clash enters its decisive stage

The two main contenders for the Armenian futsal championship title — Unisport and Yerevan — are gearing up for the season's climax. The playoff final will be played over two legs: on May 21 and May 25. These matches will mark the peak of a fierce battle that began with the very first round.

The season has revolved around their rivalry. Under the guidance of Felix Khachatryan, Unisport dominated the regular season with 14 wins in 14 games and a terrifying goal difference of 114:24. The only team capable of putting up a fight was Yerevan, who lost narrowly in their head-to-head encounters — 5:6 and 0:1.

But the playoffs are a fresh start. Both clubs convincingly overcame their semifinal opponents, and in the Armenian Cup, the balance tipped in Yerevan’s favor — Khachatur Mikaelyan’s team eliminated Unisport in a dramatic 6:5 semifinal. The Cup final against Logicon will take place on May 17 and may serve as a perfect warm-up before the championship showdown.

The finalists are not only the country's strongest teams but also the main suppliers of players to the Armenian national futsal team. From Unisport, Hamlet Manukyan, Sargis Margaryan, and Emin Karabekyants are regular call-ups. Yerevan boasts a whole group of national leaders: Rafik Melikyan, Migran Dermenjyan, Garegin Mashumyan, Artur Patatyan, Karen Khatuyev, and others.

These very players played a huge role in Armenia’s historic success — qualifying for the final stage of the European Futsal Championship for the first time ever. EURO 2026 will take place in Lithuania and Latvia in February.

Adding even more intrigue to the final is the top scorer race. Migran Dermenjyan from Yerevan leads with 33 goals, but Unisport’s Hamlet Manukyan is close behind with 32.

Everything points to these two matches becoming not just the season’s final, but the climax of the entire year’s futsal drama. Who will emerge victorious in this grand duel — the flawless Unisport or the ambitious Yerevan?
